Your Neighborhood Pharmacy: Pleasant Street Apothecary
The newest face in the neighborhood is Pleasant Street Apothecary, located on the ground floor of the Michaels-Stern building, home of AIDS Community Health Center. This convenient, apothecary-style pharmacy at the corner of 87 North Clinton Ave. and Pleasant Street opened in March 2005 as the latest innovation in AIDS Community Health Center’s mission to provide one-stop HIV care to its patients.
Pleasant Street Apothecary helps patients manage the complexities of living with HIV/AIDS by offering a wide range of HIV pharmaceuticals, a complete selection of non-HIV drugs, limited over-the-counter items, an experienced staff, high tech services, and reliable home delivery for AIDS Community Health Center patients as well as for people working and living in the area. The pharmacy atmosphere is open and welcoming, with a cozy waiting area complete with coffee service.
And it couldn’t be more convenient. One minute you’re upstairs with your doctor, the next you’re headed out the door with your monthly prescriptions in hand. Pleasant Street Apothecary hours of operation were developed to complement AIDS Community Health Center hours and to provide weekend service:
Monday - Friday: 8:30 a.m. - 6:00 p.m.
Tuesday: 8:30 a.m. - 7:30 p.m.
Saturday: 9:00 a.m. - Noon
If complicated drug regimens are the mainstays of HIV and AIDS treatment, ease and accessibility are the mainstays of Pleasant Street Apothecary service. As a patient of AIDS Community Health Center, you are served regardless of your geographic location, either in conjunction with receiving other services on site or through mail or other personal delivery services. In addition, although most AIDS Community Health Center patients are covered by insurance for medications, the pharmacy is committed to serving you regardless of your income. If you are not covered by insurance, you will be referred to an AIDS Community Health Center Case Manager who will assist with insurance coverage and/or pharmaceutical provider scholarships.
Pleasant Street Apothecary’s two registered pharmacists have a combined 36 years of prior service with a major local pharmacy. One pharmacist is especially known for his experience with HIV patients, both AIDS Community Health Center and others. Both pharmacists know that the side effects of HIV treatment can be particularly difficult to manage. They know about drug combinations, interactions, and advances in care. They know how to work courteously and compassionately with people of all backgrounds and needs.
Joined by a Pharmacy Technician/Delivery Driver, your professional apothecary staff offers a wide range of services, including:
- Therapeutic drug monitoring
- Clinical pharmaceutical counseling in a private environment
- Vigorous monitoring of drug-drug and drug-nutrient interactions
- Compliance monitoring
- Participation in clinical trials conducted at AIDS Community Health Center
- Assistance in choosing over-the-counter medications
- Assistance locating community resources for other medical supply needs
And if Spanish is your primary language, AIDS Community Health Center staff provides translation services as needed.
The pharmacy’s entrance is inside the street door entrance from Pleasant Street. Access for AIDS Community Health Center patients is provided through the availability of 15 reserved parking spaces directly across Pleasant Street from the pharmacy entrance. For the public, metered parking is available on Clinton Avenue, as well as 20-minute flasher parking on Pleasant Street, and the pharmacy is conveniently located on a major downtown bus route. Pleasant Street Apothecary is handicapped-accessible.
Pleasant Street Apothecary will keep pace with trends in telephone and Internet technology by offering a dedicated Pleasant Street Apothecary website and integration of electronic prescriptions by 2006. Pleasant Street Apothecary is a DBA of Community Health Network, Inc. (CHN).
